Layin' Low - Construction Project

I quit my day job of teacher to start helping with all the other projects going on. This is a great shot taken by our neighbors at Lion's Den about the beginning of February. The porch roof is now on and coated heavily with R400 rubber roofing.

Last week included spray foam insulation all over the walls and ceiling. Then pouring 9 yards of concrete for my laundry room floor and capping the septic.

Friday March 22nd - "Knee high boots and Daisy Dukes on a Friday night" used to have a completely different meaning.  It is amazing how much of a workout shoveling concrete readymix into buckets is. My arms and shoulders were absolutely burning (which felt good since I have not hit the gym in way tooo long - wait - there is no gym here).

Wednesday March 27th - Brian is off island, so I am now the foreman.  Today was moving rocks to fill a hole for one of the pilings of the second side of the house, mixing and MORE SHOVELING of concrete, cutting rebar, and jack hammering. Just another day.......

So - I am entering into the world of bloggers. I am inspired by my friend's blog -Choosing the Better Life.

Yesterday was our annual Valentine's Day fund raiser. What a success! As usual, annual events just seem to happen on their own. We had a wonderful turn out to support the Library and Oldest House.  I had baked yummy Brownies with Chocolate Chip Cookie filling. Lots of volunteers to host the Library book sale, bake sale, flea market, and of course...food.

Around three in the afternoon, Brian drove by in the truck and said "let's go wake boarding".  That was all I needed to hear to pass the baton of money collecting and head out. Things were winding down, so it was OK to turn things over to other volunteers.

It took some time to round up the kids and load the boat, but we had about an hour or so to enjoy fun before sunset. While they waited, Layna, Maximus, and Uncle Chuck had a pretend trip to the Yacht Club in the Kayak. Cole tried and tried, and ALMOST stayed up. Chris did great, and Gage did some knee boarding.

Saturday night has become "Pizza Night" in the Lowe house. Thanks to our neighbors at Copasetic for the fresh basil!  Our  Kite Boarding Regulars flew in earlier in the day and brought us treats - 3 gallons of milk and GIRL SCOUT COOKIES, so you can imagine what we had for dessert!
